This year, it was all about the word-guessing game Wordle. According to Google’s annual “Year in Search 2022” report, Wordle was the most googled word in 2022, with searches peaking in February following its acquisition by The New York Times. Coming in at a close second was the much anticipated Cricket World Cup match between India and England. Ukraine rounded out the top three searches globally and was also the top trending news topic of the year.
But it wasn’t just events and countries that captured our attention this year. Johnny Depp topped the list of the most searched people, likely due to his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard, who came in at a third place. Will Smith took the second spot. In terms of entertainment, “Thor: Love and Thunder,” “Black Adam,” and “Top Gun: Maverick” was at the most searched movies, while “Euphoria” was the most searched TV show. Tennis players dominated the list of most searched athletes, with Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Serena Williams taking the top three spots.
